After the release of Facebook® for BlackBerry® smartphones version 1.5 you told us we were missing some important features in our application, like the ability to view Photos and Profiles. Well, we’ve been working hard and are excited to have these features available for you now in the new Facebook for BlackBerry version 1.6 release.
The new version will now let you:
- View your Status Feeds quickly as the application landing page, and give you quick access to the Facebook Publisher and your highlight feed.

- View Profiles in order to see Wall posts.

- Browse through Photo Albums.

- Browse through Photos in a carousel view.

Download the new version today from your desktop or from your BlackBerry smartphone and start exploring these new features in addition to the Friend List and Calendar Integration features added in the 1.5 release. Then, tell us what you think! We want to know what other features we should work on for our next release, too.

In very typical blackberry and facebook like way, this version does not work correctly. No servicebooks for ical etc...wtf after this amount of time you would think somone could get it right
Thanks for the feedback! You're right. There isn't full BlackBerry calendar sync with the Facebook CICAL like there is with a BES CICAL services. Also, if your BlackBerry is connected to a BES the Facebook Friend List - Contact List Connect feature, and Facebook Calendar feature may be disabled by default.
I like the update but I can't get the calendar syncing to work. Reading the post below I see the answer as I am on a BES.
thanks for the update guys, can you concentrate on getting higher quality support for youtube now...please. It looks awful.
The comments state that the "Facebook Calendar feature may be disabled by default" when connected to a BES. Is there a way to enable it when connected to a BES?
I think there's a bug that annoys me in this version. When I go to Friends List, some of my friends are not listed there.
I have tried to refresh the friends list several times, but it still don't show.
Sorry to hear this. When you try and retrieve your friends list does the progress meter show 100%?

Dear Becky,
Thanks for replying my comment.
Actually when I refresh the friend list, the progress made to 100% but still some of my friends are not in the list.
Is it because too many friends that I have?
So for the moment I downgraded the facebook app to the latest 1.5
Hope the next version will be much better
the new facebook 1.6 app is really great!
But what about implementing the facebook chat feature?
is it technically possible?
I have the Tmobile 8320 curve with Wifi and I am not able to install the new Facebook V1.6 Application. Please help or advise how I can go about installing version 1.4 or 1.5. THANKS
I live in Austria and have a Bold and I couldn't download the new app yet. I also tried it over the website by sending the download link via E-mail, but it doesn't work either.
When I try with my bberry, it says that I don't have the necessary requirements..which is BS.
Anyway..guess it still got bugs.
Others who experienced similar issues seemed to have success downloading the application from: http://www.blackberry.com/emea/facebook_download
If you still receive the error meesage, follow this thread for further updates: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8900&thread.id=4818&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
I am very excited with the screens that I am seeing in your blog and have tried to download the app, but am constantly getting the following error:
"Could not connect because a data service is not available. Please try again later. If this continues, contact your service provider for support."
The 1.5 version worked without a problem on my bberry and I also still have access to the web, msn, etc - so it is specifically related to the new 1.6 :(
Any ideas? This is very frustrating :s
Thanks!
Vivian
ps. I have a Spanish number and am currently roaming in the US by using the edge network - but this was not an issue until the new download :(
I have noticed only two issues with FB 1.6:
The application is slow, especially when retrieving comments. But I find the application slow at times even when not retrieving comments. Not sure what's going on, but FB 1.5 was more responsive when navigating the application.
If there is a link in a comment (or presumably any other block of text), the text block distorts/becomes fuzzy when scrolling. This only seems to happen when a text block contains a link. For example, if I am scrolling through comments and I come across a comment with a link in it, when the comment cell is highlighted in blue, the text in that cell becomes distorted/fuzzy.
Can someone look into these issues please? Otherwise, I find the application to be satisfactory. I am running FB 1.6 on a Bold with OS 4.6.0.266. Thanks.
How can I upgrade to the old version 1.5? The newer version 1.6 is a step backwards in terms of photo upload quality. I waited forever for satisfactory quality uploads in version in 1.5 and then it was taken away within a couple months.
GIVE THE USER THE OPTION OF FAST CRAPPY UPLOADS OR SLOWER HI-QUALITY UPLOADS. I don't need to browse my photos if that is what is the sticking point.
If anyone has 1.5 that they can send to me, please let me know.
I also am having issues with this version in regard to refreshing my friends list. I have tried to refresh the list several times, but I wait, and wait, and wait for it to get to 100%, and it NEVER does. In fact, it doesn't get above 40%, and I have waited for up to an hour!!! I have tried deleting the application and redownloading it, rebooting the phone, nothing seems to work. I have the Blackberry Curve, and I did just read that "Facebook 1.6 for BlackBerry smartphones is not supported on BlackBerry smartphones with trackwheels." It seems to work just fine otherwise, but could this be the issue???? HELP!
Great update! Love the extra functionality in this release.
I, like other people here have issues allegedly related to BES. But how did calendar and address book integration work fine in 1.5 and don't work in 1.6? Can this be turned on?
Also, I seem to have stopped receiving direct messages with this version. What happened?
Hi Nedim
You may need to go in and reset your options.
For the calendar the following link should help:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/viewContent.do?externalId=KB16331
For your address book:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/viewContent.do?externalId=KB16365
And for email notifications you can check the following link:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/viewContent.do?externalId=KB18147
If you are still having problems you can post your question on the following board on the Support Forums:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board?board.id=BlackBerryDeviceSoftware&page=1
Hopefully this helps.
Thanks for the reply Becky!
BlackBerry Calendar application checkbox is deselected and grayed out. So I can't turn that on!
BlackBerry Contacts applications is selected and grayed out. So it's always on.
The only one I can change is BlackBerry Message application.
The links you supplied don't say what to do if the option is disabled (deselected and grayed out).
Receiving direct messages was my fault. I realized I had Facebook emails filtered into separate folder so they were never reaching my BB. I didn't realize Facebook for BB "interprets" those email that Facebook sends to me instead of direct FB->BB communication.
Can someone please respond to this question? It seems like the 3 posts on here keep failing to yield a response. Why are the calendar and blackberry contacts checkboxes Greyed out when you're on a BES server? How can we enable it like in 1.5?
Yes it is possible to enable the BlackBerry Calendar and BlackBerry Contacts application integration when your BlackBerry is connected to a BES. Your BES Administrator must follow the steps outlined in the How to control Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones 1.6 organizer data access Knowledge Base article (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB18427), once this is completed the selection boxes will no longer be grayed out.
I checked with our BES administrator and he said the IT policy was set properly and should work. It however still has greyed out boxes for both the calendar and contacts. I've rebooted, reset, etc and still nothing. Is this just going to be an error until a new version comes out?
Hi,
Since the day before yesterday i am unable to comment some statuses.
The following error message appears:
"User is not accessible for this request."
I am not the only one with that problem, so its not a device specific problem (see http://forums.crackberry.com/f35/facebook-1-6-app-user-not-accessible-request-249512/)
Any help would be appreciate,
Fabio
Okay, can someone give me the hint of getting this dang thing to just download? I have deleted and downloaded it a number of times, but I don't get the icon. Yes, I have viewed all icons...
What the...
Dear ones,
I had the Facebook Application 1.5 working perfectly alright. But since i have upgraded to 1.6, the typical message "Could not connect because a data service is not available. Please try again later. If this continues, contact your service provider for support" bothers me. My operator does not block facebook as i can still access on wap or edge.
The google application also cannot find the network. I used wifi.. i used edge and had both activated at same time, but no use.
Can someone guide me out of this please.. .
Thanks
RG
I still like the regular mobile Facebook better. Where's the in box on the Blackberry version? Likewise with Myspace, where's the blog feature on the Blackberry version?
Hi ~ I've had the Facebook v1.6 app on my BlackBerry Storm 9530 v4.7.0.148 for a little while, and it worked fine until recently. I'm suddenly no longer able to access my friend list. I'm not on a BES, so I'm wondering why I now get the message, "Your friend list is not available" when I hit the "friends" icon, which obviously means I can't send or post messages unless I go to the mobile site. This may have happened after I downloaded another app (that I didn't even want and uninstalled). How can I get my friend list back on my BB? I've tried everything, including uninstalling/reinstalling the FB app, rebooting, etc. Please help.
i seen to have a problem replying to friends status updates , when i do they always seem to be posted 3 times which makes me look kinda silly .
any thoughts on what i could do to stop this happening.
I'm sorry to say this but 1.6 is horribly slow on my Pearl 8110. Starting the application: I can't use it because it takes forever to refresh the status list; meanwhile I can't even enter a quick status update. Reading a friend's message or comment: I can't use it because everyone shows up as "Private User" while the data is loaded s l o w l y. Trying to view pictures is slow and all the photos are so tiny I can't see anything. It's just intolerable. I have uninstalled it.
How do it get 1.5 back? The messaging integration was nice. Same with the calendar. Please??
Where is the most important and essential feature of facebook? THE INBOX. I see the option to send messages, but where on earth can I read my INBOX messages at? Only on the mobile site in my crappy blackberry browser? This surely can't be right. Am I missing the link to message inbox? help!
The best feature of the FB app has to be the photo browser. I am very impressed with the carousel view. My friends with iPhones did not snicker at my old 8830 when I shared photos from my recent photo session. Nice job! I am not sure about the calendar integration. I will have to play with that and see what it does.
I am wanting iCal support in the BB and wireless. Until BB supports wireless, I am only a few days away from switching to another cellular device. I have read that the wireless feature will be available in the soon to come Storm 2. I just rolled my eye when the sales person showed me the Tour- sans wireless. I need it at work to monitor wireless network remotely.
The mobile photo upload quality is horrible compared to 1.5, and in my mind does not offset the other upgrades. I've gone back to 1.5 until the photo quality improves.
Some new features that I would like to see in the next version:
-- Allow status comments to be sorted with the oldest at the top instead of the newest at top. I hate reading from the bottom to the top.
-- As with the web interface, I would like to be able to click a "Like this" on someone's status.
I miss being able to click on the "poke" option in the toolbar at the top...
Facebook merged with my outlook contacts and the wrong pictures, job titles, companies, etc. have appeared beside many of my contacts. As you can imagine - I'm freaking out a bit as there is next to no way to know what the correct info WAS as I don't have 600+ individual contacts memorized.
Help!
Hi, I have a Bold and I had v1.5 installed and working correctly. When v1.6 came out, I installed it and it worked correctly for a while, then I stopped receiving Notification updates and Inbox updates. I tried clearing the caches (FB and Blackberry). I tried logging out and in. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app both through the 'berry and through my PC. Nothing has worked. I really miss my FB app. Any suggestions?
i have a blackberry tour and when i downloaded the facebook app. it was good, but when i put my work email in the BB all the pictures in the facebook went black and white, and i cant connect my facebook contacts with my contacts.
so could any one help me how to solve this problem
I updated to this rubbish !
And god I so wish I had not, it is not working and hundreds of people all over the net on both O2 and Vodafone all saying the same thing what a load of rubbish.
It works for 24 hours then poof it dies, I have tried uninstalling the app
I have tried re installing the app.
I have hard reset my phone.
In fact their is not much as an MCSE qualified engineer that I have not done and it still wont work.
Well done for the idiot who rote the app what an idiot !
On my FB, how come when I see my friend and I write a comment, press send and I get a FB User is not accessible for this request.?
How come?
I have 2 friends so far that all of a sudden I can't comment on them!
This behavior can be seen when the friend you are attempting to post the comment to has set their Facebook Application Privacy settings to not allow information about them to be shared through the Facebook API.
I have noticed that I am unable to comment on my friends who post from their iPhones.
Hi,
I have the new facebook application for my blackberry (curve) 8900.
I have about 2,700 friends on facebook since I’m a dj. When I try connecting some of my contacts in my blackberry address book to their facebook profiles their names don’t appear when I look for them through the facebook app.
I tried refreshing the list through the facebook app on my phone but still no luck. I know for sure that several of these friends have their privacy seetings pretty much non-existent.
I love the fact that I can connect the contacts from faceboook to bbm (especially the new one with pics) and to my phone book (so facebook pics come up), however now that all my facebook friends don’t appear in my blackberry facebook app, there is no way to do that…
PLEASE HELP!
MY RATING> 4 OUT OF 10
1. VERY SLOW! fetching .... .. fetching . . . . fetching . . . .
2. LIKE!? You cant "like" a picture or status or link ..? This is a must feature of Facebook.

Not a great Facebook Browsing App. I use it if I have to or have no other choice. It is pretty good to get your mobile upload pics up!
FEATURES AND EXPERIENCE DOES NOT COMPARE TO IPHONE/ IPOD APP, AT ALL!!
Eagerly Awaiting the Next Release!!
