tivo for BlackBerryEver find yourself in a situation when you're chatting with a few friends at a bar and someone recommends a new show to check out on TV? You make a mental note to either catch the next telecast or schedule it on your DVR. Unfortunately, life gets in the way and that mental note evaporates into thin air, along with what you wanted to see. Situations like this can now have a happy ending thanks to TiVo® for BlackBerry® smartphones.

The TiVo for BlackBerry smartphones app allows users to browse, search and schedule recordings of their favorite TV programs to their TiVo DVR directly from their BlackBerry smartphone. Meet MyBlackBerry Community Manager Becky Young

beckycropped.jpg
So after much hubbub, MyBlackBerry™ has launched and is feeling the love from the BlackBerry® smartphone community. Now that we've fully jumped into the Internet's social waters, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at how MyBlackBerry got started and where it's going. There's no better person to ask than MyBlackBerry's Community Manager (and my boss), Becky Young.

Who are you and what do you do?
I am part of RIM's social media team, that works on everything from the Inside BlackBerry blogs to the Facebook fan pages, and of course MyBlackBerry.  Our daily lives are full of listening - a lot of listening! And then we try to take what we learn from listening and incorporate that into the building of our social programs.

For MyBlackBerry I am the project lead, supported by Rodney on the technical side and Rob on the marketing side, and of course quite a few other RIM employees who help us keep the site together (app teams, accessories teams, support services, IT...the list is HUGE!). My main role is to make sure we stay true to what people using social sites expect.  It was quite a shift in thinking from "how do we design a site to tell people about BlackBerry smartphones" to "how do we design a site to help BlackBerry smartphone users talk to other BlackBerry smartphone users."

Those who know me, know I'm a HUGE sports fan. With the NFL season less than a week away from starting, I'm about to go into sports overload - in fact, I just upgraded my home cable package to make sure I catch all the games of my favorite team (Go Bears!) now that they have a legitimate quarterback.

However, while I'm a huge sports fan and have dabbled in fantasy leagues before, I somehow never got into fantasy football (I know, it's weird). When I found out about Yahoo! Fantasy Football, I knew all that was about to change, and I demanded to be the one to reveal the application to my fellow BlackBerry® smartphone sports faithful.

Click the "Continue Reading" link to learn more about Yahoo! Fantasy Football, now available on BlackBerry App World™.

Air Canada BlackBerry web signal takes flight!

aircanada_2

Here at RIM, I work for the BlackBerry® Platform Product Management team.  We're the product managers for the Java® and web developer tools that allow anyone to develop applications for BlackBerry® smartphones. My fellow product manager, Mario, manages our BlackBerry web signals platform which allows developers to push content updates to BlackBerry smartphones.

Last week, I was in Ottawa working on BlackBerry App World™ planning, and to make travel easier, I took advantage of Air Canada's latest web signal service which combines web check-in with an Electronic Boarding Pass.

Please note that the BlackBerry Market Research Panel engages in legitimate research studies. To ensure your total privacy, personal information is not included in the study results, and all questionnaire responses are aggregated with the responses from the same survey. The information you provide will be used for research purposes only. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the BlackBerry Market Research Panel technical support.

We look forward to your opinions and feedback!
