i have bought a second hand BB 8830 World Edition. I am from India, I want to know if we can activate CDMA Voice and data services in the handset. This handset was used by some Verizon Customer.

I have been a verizon customer for several years. I did not encounter any problems until I purchased a blackberry curve. I am currently on my third phone in less than five months. The first phone was exchanged for a brand new phone within the first 30 days. The second phone lasted a couple of months before it stopped working. My third phone does not work properly.

In addition to all the issues with the blackberry specifically- the Verizon staff was not as professional or knowledgeable about their jobs as I would expect. The first night I was in the Beaufort store to exchange the second phone I witnessed several employees socializing with one another while the phone rang off the hook. At the time when the phone was ringing there were only two customers in the store- and I counted five employees. I believe that the woman helping me was in training- I do not recall her name. She took my phone in the back and tested the battery- this took about 45 min. She said I just had a bad battery- replaced the battery and sent me on my way home. When I got home I picked the phone up and it was burning hot. Since the battery I was given was not charged I went to plug it into the charger. Once again the phone would not charge- it turned off and would not turn on again. I got back in my car and went to the store. This time the lady told me that I would have to wait for a new phone to be mailed to me because there was something wrong with the phone. I explained to her that I am active duty military and I was about to leave town for two weeks- I was on a boat and did not have a shipping address and needed my phone to conduct business. Finally the manager agreed to loan me a blackberry curve 1 while I was on my trip- with the understanding that the new phone would get shipped to the store and upon my return to town I would go and exchange the phones at the store. when I returned I went to the store to pick up my phone. The lady took the phone out of the box and asked me where my battery and back for the phone was—so I had to explain to her that I turned my phone into the lady the night I got the loaner phone and was never told that the refurbished phone I got was going to be shipped without a battery or back. I believe her name was Ashley B—and she gave me an attitude like I was stupid for not knowing the phone would come without these items. It took her about an hour to decide how she would resolve this issue and finally came to the conclusion that she would have to get one ordered and sent to the store. She took my phone number and told me she would call when the items came in. I waited 4 days and decided I would call the store to ask about it. The first person I spoke with was a male employee—he did not want to hear anything I had to say—and put me on hold to speak with Ashley—I was on hold for 20 min and I decided that was more than long enough. I hung up from that number and called the customer service 800 number. While on that call the lady said she could not get me my items but she agreed to contact the Beaufort store and hold a conference call with the three of us. The same man I was speaking with earlier was the one on the conference call—he looked for my items and found them. I had the lady from the 800 number submit a complaint for me against the Beaufort store. I drove over to the Beaufort store—this time I was shocked by how fast I got to see a customer service representative—but the lady that took me (I think Tanisha) said that my items were not in the store. At this point I started to get very angry- I explained to her that I was just on the phone with someone in the store and they said my items were there. She went in the back room and looked for them again. This time she came back with my items. She transferred my phone numbers and set up my email for me. I left the store thinking it would be ok. When I got home and tried to text with the phone I realized that the “e” key does not always work while you are texting. I am extremely disappointed in the performance of this blackberry and if I did not have a two year contract I would have canceled my services and moved to another provider. I do not believe I will stick with verizon after this experience. I will not even have the time to use this phone to verify if it is operating properly, I will be deploying to Afghanistan in November- so I believe that your company has sold me a phone that is a piece of garbage- and the warranty will run out and I will be forced into purchasing another phone before I rate an upgrade.
