Inside BlackBerry 6: Multimedia Experience

Our team has been working hard to enhance the overall multimedia experience in BlackBerry® 6, and we’ve packed a lot of changes into the upcoming release. I’m very excited to be able to provide some more details about this aspect of BlackBerry 6 today.

In pulling together this update, the multimedia team focused on delivering an intuitive multimedia experience right out of the box – so whether you are a power user or new to mobile multimedia on BlackBerry smartphones, you can easily find and use the enhanced multimedia features.

There’s too much to talk about in just one post, so with that in mind, I picked some of my favorite new BlackBerry 6 multimedia features. Look for the Inside BlackBerry team to dive deeper into some of these features in future blog posts.

Music Album Art and Discovery

The minute you’ve loaded your music library to your BlackBerry smartphone via BlackBerry Media Sync, you’ll notice that we’ve added album art virtually everywhere for instant and easy recognition of your favorite albums. You will be able to navigate your music by using the interactive carousel to swipe through the album art. You will also quickly find other selections from the same album/artist by selecting the album or artist name for the song currently playing!

Organize Your Photos

With BlackBerry 6, we will also provide multiple dynamic ways to view and organize your photos, so thousands of photos can be organized intuitively. For example, photos will be able to be grouped by event or by date. You will be able to view the full picture or a slide show of pictures with transitions. BlackBerry smartphones with touch support are designed to easily zoom in on an area of interest with the “Pinch to Zoom” feature. BlackBerry 6 will also allow you to select groups of pictures to share, copy, paste or delete.

Streaming, Sharing and Searching for Videos

Searching through videos on your BlackBerry smartphone has been made easier in BlackBerry 6 with the new thumbnail view. There will also be more ways to view videos in BlackBerry 6. You will be able to opt to play video in various sizes (Original, Fit to Screen, Full Screen), plus instantly share your videos with the world using the new integrated YouTube® video uploader. Or perhaps you want to watch some online videos – no problem! The new universal search feature in BlackBerry 6 has been designed to enable you to search Internet video sites such as YouTube, and to enjoy higher quality YouTube videos when using Wi-Fi.

New Camera Controls and Supported Scene Modes

With BlackBerry 6, we focused on perfecting the point and shoot experience. Users can capture photos quicker and better than ever before with a variety of new features in BlackBerry 6. New onscreen controls means there is no need to hunt through menus for your favorite options. You will be able to access and review camera pictures, set popular options and pick from a variety of scene modes, all directly from the camera screen. You will also be able to capture video using the video camera application on the device.

New Podcasts App!

With the BlackBerry podcasts service, users will be able to experience the convenience of searching, subscribing and playing entertaining audio and video podcasts directly from their BlackBerry smartphone. This service will be preloaded with BlackBerry 6 in North America and is completely mobile (so no PC required) – and all of the content is available for free! Stay tuned to Inside BlackBerry for an upcoming post on the BlackBerry podcasts app.

Finding New Multimedia Content and Apps

If you have not yet loaded any multimedia content onto your BlackBerry smartphone or are looking for something new, no problem. Select “Explore Music Apps”, “Explore Video Apps” or “Explore Picture Apps” from the main menu screen within the media player, and you will be provided with a direct link to quickly discover popular media apps from each of those categories from the BlackBerry App World™ storefront (app availability dependent upon your region and carrier). This is one of many ways to start enjoying media right out of the box.

BlackBerry Desktop Software and Media Sync

On top of continued support of iTunes & Windows Media® Player music sync and 2-way photo sync, BlackBerry 6 has been designed to enable you to sync videos to and from your BlackBerry smartphone (BlackBerry to PC, or PC to BlackBerry). Plus there are now greater music sync options: in addition to playlists, users will have more flexibility and will also be able to sync by individual artists or genres. Stay tuned to a future post on Inside BlackBerry about BlackBerry Desktop Software with Media Sync.

I’m very excited about the new multimedia experience that will be offered in BlackBerry 6! Post a comment and let us know of the multimedia features that you use today, or those that you’re most looking forward to in BlackBerry 6.

This looks superb! Currently I really use the Music Player a lot and I love it when the BlackBerry team introduced CD-numbering in BlackBerry OS 5. I really hope that is still there in BB6.

Furthermore, the podcast app is nice, but do you guys also consider international users? Do you currently have internation partners to broadcast podcasts?

The thing I’m looking most forward through though is the new Camera. The current one is o.k., but it can be improved a million times. Turning off the shutter sound is one of those things. Also autofocus on my Storm2 could be better.

    And….. is there a releasedate? :-D

This all looks awesome, but the biggest fear amongst the BB community is that BB6 will not be available on current market devices and will only be available on devices sporting 512mb of RAM therefore many users missing out on what BB6 has to offer especially if they have no upgrade options from their carrier due to long 12-28 month contracts. I hope it will be available on my Storm 2 9520 :(

  • Sean Shen

Having Media Sync desktop is good. Enhancing BB Media App is good. BUT …

The most important thing is to have a BB 99 cents music store, or have a site where BBs can download music easily over the air.

I have been using BB for 12 years, let alone my other qualifications as a super BB user. But after spending a couple of hours trying to download or buy the FIFA 2010 song I still don’t have it on my BB.

Please make OTA BB music acquisition easy! This will significantly impact on the mobile industry.

RIM is the king of efficient and secure mobile communication devices. While I believe RIM will continue the excellent work on designing and manufacturing efficient and secure mobile communication gadgets I also wish RIM put more emphasis on ENTERTAINMENT.

In the consumer world ENTERTAINMENT > communication.

And don’t forget business users are consumers as well !

    Regards,

    Sean Shen

#1: It’s not a big deal but really my 2 year old niece can design a better icon for the video camera, you really need to change that icon, it looks really wired as it is.
#2: When I loaded my songs on to my ipod, there were several albums with art missing. Here’s a easy fix for this: you should have an option that allows users to easily get album artwork straight from wikipedia. on the phone.

The ONE thing that can kill BlackBerry 6 and ship off miliions of users to Android or the iPhone is a buggy OS. RIM needs to get it right!!! So far, they appear to have had months to play with the webkit browser and many of the social networking stuff has already been there, just not so tightly integrated. The RSS reader & podcast function was harvested from Viigo, so they should have fairly stable product on their hands. It surely will be an exciting launch! I’m booking Aug 16th (that’s a Monday)!!! It’s in my calendar, RIM!

I agree with some that we will need to be able to use a WiFi network, if one is available, for as much data as possible to reduce network bandwidth and excess charges. I have an unlimited data plan, and I’m sticking to it as long as I can!

I noticed some comments on running BB 6 on older BlackBerrys. Smartphones really only have a 2 year lifespan after which they’re usually paid off & obsolete. You can probably usually get an upgrade to a new device after 2 years, so it makes no sense for RIM to try to run BB 6 on an old 8200 series Curve or Storm. Plus, you won’t get the same experience anyway as a new device user; it will be slower and suffer because of a lack of memory.

    RIM needs to:

    1. Maintain the BlackBerry as the premium business device. Notice I said “device”. We need to get away from the “phone” paradigm. I use my BlackBerry much more for data than as a phone. RIM needs to enable collaboration tools as Cisco is now doing with Cius. Tele & video conferencing with a BlackBerry will work for those who telecommute as well as for those who are constantly on the road. This is a must have in the next iteration of BlackBerrys — but RIM must act fast or lose more customers to the competition who are enabled to support this today!

    2. Improve BlackBerry’s social networking and exploring tools. The consumer market will welcome such tight integration of tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare, with GPS, compass & maps, and video communications!

    3. Better leverage RIM NOCs to provide additional services to customers such as they do with BBM. I don’t think anyone task syncing well, but this is essential, as is syncing of calendars, contacts, files, etc. Being able to utilize RIM’s compression technologies and other optimizations with those and other tools would distinguish & benefit BlackBerry users. Think collaboration!!! University students working together on projects, employees across the planet jointly developing plans for new products, friends sharing new experiences and ideas… This is huge, and with their NOCs, RIM is already poised to provide such an experience for BlackBerry users!

    4. Ensure that BlackBerry is the most secure and stable (reliable) platform out there. Android will always be on the bleeding edge, but they will not be as stable or dependable for business. Apple will always try to dazzle the consumer at the expense of something else (usually, the security of the device!). Smartphones are the new playground for malware, and those who take security lightly will pay very dearly in the future! Talk to anyone who has had their identity stolen — you just don’t walk away from it. Identity theft will skyrocket in years to come as the smartphone is used for storing personal information & passwords, commercial transactions, etc.

    5. Keep releasing products that excite & capture the imagination of users & business.

It really looks great, the Blackberry PIN Messenger has improved its appearence and seems to be really better (for a lot) than the version we are using now, plus the fact that interface's design is excelent.

Looks all great but I think what RIM need to focus on is the Enterprise aspect of things. Android and iOS battling the consumer market is already tough enough. RIM's competitive advantage is in the business world and they need to raise the bar on that front. While – given the first previews – I don't believe Windows Mobile 7 will make a big impact in the market, they are definitely trying to capitalize on their desktop success with Azure. RIM needs to look into the business cloud and make it THEIRS.

  • MrH

JMS, sometimes there is jealousy when I see such fun apps on the iPhone. However, on a recent trip overseas with six friends, four of which have Berries, the combination of BBMaps and BBM were so crucial to us getting around and being in touch. What was best was the minimal bill we came back to since the devices are so frugal with their data usage. Meanwhile the two iPhone users were paying $1.50 per SMS. Admittedly though, two player air hockey was fun on the iPhone when in transit.

    “Sports:

LOL – If Rimm can't even spell check their menus then they are doomed.

Blackberry will not get rid of their business functionality there just adding features to TRY to compete with iOS4 and Android 2.1-2.2, but dont worry your organizer and e-mail functionality is not going anywhere i can guarantee that.

Really wanna know about what media formats are supported, particularly video. Will this be device dependent? Have had a Curve 8300 for over 2 yrs on ATT, am waiting to jump on the Bold 9800 slider, hurry up!!!!! :D

I agree the e-mail functionallity isn't leaving Blackberry, but i do have my concerns that in their try to become more consumer oriented RIM neglects the business user, who likes the plain simple no-nonsense, straight forward OS.

Our whole family is Blackberry, and we're all switching to Droids, as soon as current contracts expire. There's only one reason: the browser absolutely sucks. You can announce all the cool “upgrades” you want, but until you put a decent browser on the thing, RIM is headed down fast.

  • JohnDoey

    > Apple will always try to dazzle the consumer at the expense of something
    > else (usually, the security of the device!). Smartphones are the new playground
    > for malware

iOS has great security and is 100% malware-free, even though it has over a quarter million native C apps (not baby Java apps) and a full desktop-class HTML5 browser. The typical knock is that it is too locked down. Just talk about what you know.

  • boatsy13

Both the new 9800 and OS6 look great. Unfortunately it has taken RIM along time to introduce a product that truely excites the consumer. A long time BB customer, I am admitidely ready to jump on the Apple band wagon if RIM doesn't announce a release date by July 30.

  • Donny

Most of what he said has ALREADY been implemented in OS 5 – social app integration is there – better than any other platform. The GUI or visual interaction pales in the face of competition because the hardware is not up to stuff – no Cortex A8 no specific video chipset imbedded or piggybacked on the cpu to enable OpenGL ES 2.1.

Developing projects for Students: Podcasting and working with Apple iTunes U for Universities and colleges to support online & secure schedules, along with email already in place, and audio book support – do away with paper even less. Allow for digital signing of approval emails or approvals for the corporate infrastructure! The ontario government ALREADY has seriously imposed restrictions on paper/new printers and restricts colour printer access. Allow touch screen devices (capacitive) to allow for finger signatures by managers giving approval via email/PDF to be digitally signed and encrypted thus ONLY they can approve; never spoofed or duplicated.

Remote Synch'ing and support for device wiping and end user purchased devices having THEIR data not wiped when on corporate network. If you can disable BES services or activation from BES right down on the NOC then consumers ONLY get to use their device for personal use. Allow the wipe command to be sent regardless of APN connection so that even if a SIM swap is done on a stolen unit – even with known password, then VERY limited data is accessed or leaked. BETTER YET create a NEW IT Policy that restricts access EVEN when SIM is swapped – yet allowing BES admins to re-enable remotely via the former SIM cards APN and provider data connection details to be updated or even over wifi connection; either way somehow do something.

PIN & BBM!! Something NEEDS to done here BEYOND the incredible experience that is already present. Many of us have bought quality used devices or hardware warranty swap from providers “warranty repair” – that's a WHOLE other issue – and when the new device is activated we all get spammed or requested by ppl over BBM or PIN we have NO clue who they are. Sure we can ignore requests on BBM but direct PIN which is already known anyway still comes through. This can be fixed by the NOC when PIN+ESN (DEC/HEX) or PIN+IMEI+ICCID is updated with a new BIS/BES service line and new provider based BIS email address & mobile line that all previous communications to PIN can be excluded … UNLESS restored from backups for same users.

There is so much more … but RIM is the KING when it comes to collaboration on mobile devices: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Nokia do NOT come close – especially when it comes to the corporate market. Apple has a specific direction but not collaboration.

  • Donny

Waiting for pictures and video supported as well – along with conversion; since Bold 9700, Storm 2, Pearl 9100 and Tour 2 all support H.264 videos.

on another note, RIM move ALL development to Eclipse fully and soon please, Allow Mac OS X and Linux users to collaborate … especially with such compelling devices like 9800 awaiting to be debuted. Wait too long and you risk more developers going to Android & iOS 4 and your users along with them.

  • Donny

    Hmm.
Corporate user: No support for Lotus Domino or GroupWise servers. Intranet applications or support team apps like RemedyAR access. No thanks. wait to Android grows up or Google is accepted more into corporations as a viable solution alternative. RIM is NOT going ANYWHERE SOON! Stop the hype.

    Consumer: Hmm appealing but.
Secure emails, Secure device – no issues about secure pw locking EVER, no live BBM like updates for IM like BB – no multiple market segment pricing without contracts; hmmm second largest OS in the world sold or shipping in the phone/smartphone space. Many have left and loved it some are not sure.

  • Technofile

Wow they have caught up to 2009. Woo hoo!. Really? Maybe next year they will add betamax capabilities.

  • Donny

again not paying attention to previous leaks or official announcements from WES2010 that HTML Webkit ENGINE not just the browser will be implemented. This means better HTML-Email, Browsing, Corporate Intranet site support – possibly even SharePoint access, Delegation and collaboration.

The hardware needs better support in OpenGL and other software standards to bring it in line for developers to REALLY have a kick out of it – not just consumers benefit from this.

  • Donny

I doubt that. Apple iOS 4 lead Forestall cannot even form a proper sentence that is video taped and presented on the main Apple site “The iPhone 4 is just so Blow away!”? What?!

  • Riley

It only took Rim three years to copy Apple's interface.

  • Donny

@ Sean Shen, regarding downloading music OTA … totally agree. My solution was to install Bolt Browser (9700 OS 5) – free btw on AppWorld or directly – and was able to download a 1.3MB mp3 mix session from Soundcloud without issue. I even let my 9700 goto sleep and it completed & I can play it back in native music player – and because I added it to a playlist I was able to sync it to iTunes via PC – did another and did sync to Mac OSX SL.

RIM Please do the following with BlackBerry 6:
    * Allow setting of HTML emails defaulted by users to actually WORK!
    - no more looking to download pictures, no more prompts that doing so exposes email address.
    * Higher Email attachment sizes: 10MB is Exchange/Outlook standard for almost a decade; follow suit.
    - on this note allow 10MB default browser download sizes or limit to whatever MicroSD card has free space. This is 2010 and 16/32GB storage cards are NOW common & consumer priced accepted.
    * Allow quick search within opened browser pages.
    - if you allow searching for ALL opened browser pages (tabs) you get BONUS marks!!
    * Allow attachments to be auto downloaded. Not all your users are on limited 500/1GB data plans and with NOC compression even 500GB is sufficient for consumer that get 5MB attachments in emails 3x/day/week.
    - on this note allow user configurable settings to save attachments in specific storage card locations for specific files: PDF in PDF, webpages (same), mp3/aac/amr/etc in music folder, pictures in pics, movies (same), you get the point.
    * upgrade the File explorer for more power and the same.
    - while on this note allow SPECIFIC application and folders to have passwords. Allow different passwords for: Folders have their own group of passwords, Apps their own group of passwords, core PIM apps [Contacts, MemoPad, Tasks, Calendar] their own, etc; leaving this ability out for BES activated devices. To finally add to this … allow Password keeper to manage ALL separate passwords with just one – allowing backup/restore to bring this back as well regardless of BB6 device used.
    * Better Touchscreen password entry: Ontario government along with many other corporations/industry's forbids Storms to be activated on BES. For the past week I've been using my wife's 9550 and I cannot STAND IT! The 9800 Slider hopefully resolves this.
    * BBM. Everybody thinks this cannot be touched. Well it CAN. Allow BBM to move to the computing space: Mac, Linux, WindowsXP/7; enabling live Delivered/Read/awaiting delivery for offline recipients [clock icon]. So many BES users that rely on BBM/PIN2PIN are designated ON-CALL support staff for high-critical contacts and when working to reload an OS onto a device or device out of coverage – say due to non-supported roaming partners [worldwide: investment and consultant corporation users go through this endlessly] or CDMA devices that do not allow roaming on GPRS/EDGE/3G within North/South America still have mobile workstations (laptops) that have internet access via aircards or wlan can STILL get critical PIN2PIN/BBM messages if a computer initiative was launched.
^ yup … Sangster copywritten that right here.

^ Just think about how BBM on the desktop/laptop could improve upon the mobile presence and collaboration landscape. Allow API's so that super apps can tell when you're offline, yet still mobile on workstation – designated office presence to be ready for meetings (think MS Office Communicator), etc etc.

    Donny
    Seriousmobile.wordpress.com

Common RIM!! I just traded my 9700 & accessories for an iPhone and finding out the jailbreak/unlock doesn't work when upgrading left a BAD taste about iPhone in my mouth; I'm going back to 9700. Don't let me down because that 9800 with proper PIM can compete with iPhone 3GS but it needs more powerful apps so developers can thrive beyond themes, it NEEDS powerful hardware and open development tools support = full Eclipse for all platforms, please.

You should show him 5 bars and ask him if he can do that :)

  • Joe257

I won't get into a fight with you, but I'll ask you this:

Does the iPhone register apps and allow the user to determine what specific permissions to resources each app is allowed when you install: bluetooth, usb, internet, WiFi, phone, GPS, interprocess communication, device settings, media, keystrokes, browser filtering, screen capturing, files, messaging, contact & PIM info, keystore, etc., etc.? There are over a dozen more permissions that can be applied against an app. I can lock down that app down so tightly into a corner so it can only do what I want it to. Yes, BlackBerry does that! So how does the iPhone compare with their app security?

BTW, I have a 3rd gen iPod Touch and many friends and family who have iPhones. I'm not dissing the iPhone, as it has its strong points, but I recognize the benefits of the BlackBerry platform.

Actually, I don't know why iPhone supporters are interested in monitoring and posting to a BlackBerry forum. If the iPhone is so much better, what are you doing here?

  • Joe257

I write fast :) I'm hoping to enable RIM to deliver better solutions for all of us… based on my comments, yours, and everyones. RIM listens to the pulse from their users, and our collective feedback is vital to their product strategies. Cheers!

  • Applemonkey

Apple is very locked down and malware is a top issue for them. Now that they allow for apps to run in the background we will see if all the 100,000 apps are truly malware-free. When you force close all applications on exit there is not much room for malware. Once you allow an application to hold some memory and run code in the background it is much simpler to capture data and send it off to xxx or RX sites to spam your phone. Just a heads up with IPhones having such a large audience malware/ virus will be on the IPhones at some point.

Also HTML5 opens Pandora’s box for the iPhone website executed code is how they broke in to the iPhone 3gs in the past.

I agree with some of the other comments.I feel as if I am my mother with her “flip phone”. We(BB) are the trend setters. I don't really need to watch videos but I would like to get on the internet in under 5 minutes as all other smartphones do.I would like calendar intergretion in all areas of the phone and not spend $ to do that.
My company only uses BB as their phone and the business part is great I would like to use more as a personal phone as well. I am contemplating buying a second phone to browse and use as a personal phone. I also believe future BB should contain double flash memory and front facing camera for video conferencing.

I love blackberry but I'm a bit frustrated with my blackberry storm. I use my blackberry for personal and professional use and often it gets bogged down and I have to pop the battery out. Often my touch screen is unresponsive or does something other than what I press on the screen. My internet searching and the opening of files is a snails pace especially when compared to the Droid. I really don't want to switch but its getting harder and harder to ignore my phones short comings compared to the other smartphones out there. The security with blackberry is great I suppose, but it would be nice to spend less time waiting on my phone to reboot and actually using it for fun and business.

I just want my to do what it was made to do. I'm not going to get into the war of the phone god's because 1) I'm not getting paid by them 2) It's a phone and not my trip to heaven. 3) i'm getting the most out of my phone at a decent monthly plan. Let's just hope that RIM doesn't blanket it's consumers with long waiting periods.

Google Maps doesn't work on a touchscreen BlackBerry. There is no reason for Google to want to support touchscreen BlackBerrys, I suppose. It worked in the previous version, but since I upgraded last month, it stopped working! I can only use it in “keyboard mode” as none of the touchscreen functions are available. That happened earlier this year. A BB Map upgrade would be nice… with satellite view ;)

  • Rayzer999

How about a little less talk – a lot more action. OR at least let users know what device will support the upgrades!!

  • Dinadolan

I TOTALLY understand what you mean! I also experience iPhone envy sometimes… if BB could continue to be the awesome SMART phone that it is and figure out how to be sexy and slim and fun like it's Apple counterpart – wow, there'd be no stopping them! My husband and I both have storms (I have 2nd one, he has 1st) The iPhone is a toy, but ooooooh it's so much fun!

  • AntiMalwareGuy

It already is on the iPhone…. Just because apps can't multitask doesn't mean hackers can't take advantage of security holes in the OS to access the kernel and have malware run (keep in mind iOS is really just a version of UNIX with a BSD kernel)…

I work for a anti-malware company and I was helping an organization a few weeks ago deal with a rogue iPhone that was port scanning and trying to exploit things all over the place (yes, it was jailbroken).

  • James Pensketcher

Just install another carriers OS 5 on the handset.
Do your research on supportforums.blackberry.com before doing it.
Pose the question: What carrier software to i install on my Rogers Bold – No harm done, seriously I bet you half the Rogers BB Tech reps run it on their Bold 9000s but “cannot officially say do it”.

  • isaac

One comment i will make. I used to be a share holder of rimm, but dumped the stock in the 70s (thank G-d!) when i started to realize the issues bb was having keeping up with iphones and android. I do not have a bb, but many of my friends and family members do. In fact one family member just asked me if they should get a bb or droid. One thing i think is an issue is the speed of browsing the interenet, BBs are much slower than all the other smart phones i have played with, regardless of carrier. Someone told me all BB internet traffic is routed back to Waterloo, ON as opposed to the other smart phones on the market, and that is why the browsing is so slow. Is that true? If it is, a new OS, or design, or touch screen, will not help one of the most fundamental issues facing BB. Any thoughts?

  • http://caspan.com Caspan

The design principal is simple if you try to load a convention page on a browser the page it just huge. If it goes through a BIS server or BES server the pages will compress a 3 MB page to 24KB saving you huge on your data plan. As well as saving bandwidth of the carrier for others.

Obviously you might not be thinking the same company cause RIM was founded in 1984 and only went public in 1997 so how is that possible? So how did you sell your stocks in the 70s?

    1. Access multiple email accounts.
    2. Great web browswer with zoom capabilities.
    3. Excellent Calendar/Alarms.
    4. Above average battery life.
    5. Great phone connection.
    6. Laptop modem capability.

    I don't need:
    1. Facebook/Twitter
    2. Streaming video
    3. 250,000 apps

If BB can give me what I need, then I will buy a new one. Otherwise I may be forced to look elsewhere.

I agree but also RIM should make their own Skype the BBmessenger is amazing, it is free to chat internationally, should be the same in international calls between BB users and cheap calls to other land or cell phones. About the BB browser it is terrible, should change it, like Opera, it is super fast.
The processor should be 2.0 ghz like EVO in japan 4g to do multitasking easy.
It will be great to print documents from the phone by cable or bluetooth or wifi, the wifi should be easy to connect at a home network, after all I'm so happy with BB, bye

Looks good, but I guess BB should make their own Skype ( Nimbuzz is getting closer), as the BB messenger that don't use your text minutes ( it is free) you can chat internationally free, should be the same for calls between BB users around the world even better a video call.
Also should make a better and faster browser, at least as Opera mini, or the EVO browser that is super fast.
the processor should be 2.0 ghz and allow multitasking and have more ram.
the qwerty should be prepare for a man thumb not for a women and the software should recognize or give the option when we want to use only numbers and not using the alt button for each number, when using the calculator we should have most of the common buttons in the qwerty or on the screen as +,-,*,/,= and anothers also maybe have a scientific calculator and will allow us to make our own formula, saved and ask us to entry entry our variables.
BB should think more for business man around the world, maybe also make the projector to make presentation when plug it in with great quality.
I hope people from BB read this, thanks

Hey, this looks really nice. A lot of traders use BB, and yeah, it does need a lot of improvements to get more and more people to use it. I hope the BB6 is the “ultimate” BB experience.

When will the BB OS support DRM protected audio books like WMA DRM files?

  • BlackBerryHelp_Heather

    Hello Samantha,

We are unable to recommend/comment on any 3rd party applications. You may be able to find what you looking for in BlackBerry App World.

    Thanks!

i just bought this phone because it’s superior to any other in receiving emails. That’s the only good thing. What a BORING BORING BORINNNNNNNNG phone. I hate it.

I love my iPhone. But my boss only give me the choice of 3 BB models to order for production support.
I’m looking for any info on BB video conferencing. I want to be able to be on the phone, and plug my BB to the computer monitor so I can see what my team mate (hundreds of miles away) is scribbling on the board.

Hahaha good luck finding any phone that does that! Please tell me if you ever find it. I think your idea is about 5 years ahead of technology. There is nothing I know that can do that on the market today.

i just got the torch, but im still kinda disappointed it doesnt support flash, even my dad’s samsung galaxy S with android 2.2 can support it, and android has only been developed in recent years! and… it has bigger n nicer screen…and…faster processor…and…lighter…damnit, if only they have BBM on the galaxy, cmon RIM, keep up with the crowd!

  • http://caspan.com Caspan

Security man… Just yesterday a 0 day exploit was found that effects all 10.1 flash installs, including Android. Glad I did not have it on my phone! People would get hacked then say “see BlackBerry devices are not secure” even though it has nothing to do with RIM. RIM are not dummies, with the PlayBook they have allowed Flash but in a containerized environment so you are still safe.
