Today’s the day that I get to announce BlackBerry® Fan of the Month, a program we are kicking off to recognize and celebrate our loyal, creative, helpful and just plain awesome #TeamBlackBerry members! In fact, today we are announcing our first recipient.
But first, a little about BlackBerry Fan of the Month and why it means so much to us…
There are literally millions of #TeamBlackBerry fans and followers on our Twitter®, Facebook®, Flickr®, YouTube® and the Inside BlackBerry Blog channels, and you amaze and inspire us all the time. Our BlackBerry fan artists have submitted professional-grade photos, gallery-worthy sketches, and poems you wouldn’t believe. Our foodies have baked pastries that’ll make your mouth water. #TeamBlackBerry fans and followers provide support to each other every day, whether by recommending #BBTips on Twitter or providing “BlackBerry Etiquette” guidelines. You folks can’t be stopped!
To share your #TeamBlackBerry awesomeness with the world, we’ve developed the BlackBerry Fan of the Month program, and are proud to announce that our first Fan of the Month is Brian!
Brian is one of our most active #TeamBlackBerry members on Twitter (@BlackBerry, @BlackBerryHelp, @BlackBerry4Biz, @BlackBerryDev, @BlackBerryScene and @BlackBerryBlog) and we can count on him to be a helpful leader in our community. He’s the proud owner of a BlackBerry® Bold™ 9930 smartphone and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. One of the main reasons Brian is our inaugural Fan of the Month is that he is always willing to lend a hand to other #TeamBlackBerry folks, whether he’s recommending a BlackBerry smartphone or passing along some #BBTips.
So, let’s hear from the man himself! Meet Brian:
1. How many years have you been a BlackBerry fan?
Close to six years. BlackBerry was my first smartphone. I went through a whole bunch of regular phones – and then I got a BlackBerry 8703e smartphone in 2006. That got me hooked!
I thought it would be nice to message my wife and using BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™) was a step up from everything else. It was new and unique. My wife and I have been BlackBerry users ever since.
2. How many BlackBerry devices have you had?
I’ve had a total of seven BlackBerry devices – 8703e, the first BlackBerry Storm smartphone, the second BlackBerry Storm smartphone, the 9650, and the first BlackBerry Torch smartphone (9800). I’ve loved every one of them! I am currently using the BlackBerry Bold 9930 smartphone, and the BlackBerry® 7 OS is just fantastic. I like the touch screen and the processing speed.
3. What is your favorite BlackBerry smartphone app?
I use BlackBerry Messenger the most. Also, Poynt, since I can look things up at any time – what’s playing at the local cinema, where gas stations are… Oh, and Twitter. I’m always reading Twitter. I follow a lot of news feeds since I’m in the business. I follow the networks for international use. I use it quite a bit. I’m glad it has been updated recently – it’s even faster!
4. How does your BlackBerry smartphone help you?
I’ve been able to take photos and send them right away so our website can be updated, plus I can send quick emails out to our news desk. Also, if I’m trying to find an address, I can easily pull up Poynt or BlackBerry® Maps. When it comes to downtime, I’m always surfing for something using the BlackBerry® browser. Plus, all my music is on my BlackBerry smartphone and I listen to a lot of podcasts.
Finally, it’s nice to stay socially connected with people on BBM. You’re not going to drive to go see everyone – you can message them instantly. And that’s what I appreciate about my BlackBerry.
5. What is your favorite BBM emoticon?
My most used is the “can’t watch” – the hands over the eyes. Rolling on the floor laughing is pretty good, too.
6. What superhero/celebrity/metaphorical duo could represent you and your BlackBerry smartphone?
It would be Rocky and Bullwinkle – I’d be Bullwinkle. My BlackBerry smartphone would be Rocky – the one with the level head and common sense, leading me around.
7. Do you have a favorite memory with your BlackBerry smartphone?
Making friends through my BlackBerry smartphone. Helping people with their phones is one thing, but then you get to know people. It has been great to make friends with people over a social platform. I’ve talked to people from Mexico, Brazil, Canada (of course), Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Indonesia. I even have a few very good friends in the United Kingdom. One of my friends on BBM just got a brand new BlackBerry® Torch™ 9810 smartphone – I talked her into it – and she loves it. We’ve exchanged Christmas cards and everything like that. I’ve made friends all over the place.
I guess I have a multitude of memories of making friends and helping people – being able to interact with more than just people from around my local area. To make friends worldwide is probably the best memory that my BlackBerry smartphone has provided.
8. You are so willing to help other members of #TeamBlackBerry. What inspired you to start lending your BlackBerry expertise to those in need? Has anyone else given you a tip you didn’t know?
It just happened. I saw someone who needed help and I had the answers. I just like helping people, and after that, it took on a life of its own. We all shared the love of BlackBerry, and if there was a little bit of knowledge to pass on, why not pass it on?
As for a new tip, I can’t remember who it was, but someone posted the [tip] Alt-Shift-H to get the data screen up. I never knew that existed before.
9. As your Twitter bio states, you’re “addicted” to your BlackBerry smartphone. What do you love most about your device?
It’s a real phone. It’s not a gimmick. It does everything – it’s a true smartphone. I can look up things, I can search the Internet, and I can quickly message my friends. It’s everything a phone should be without trying to be the flavor of the month. It suits me.
I consider BlackBerry smartphones to be the super car of phones. Everybody else has a Mercedes while I’m driving around in a Bentley.
10. We love creating hashtags. Can you create one that tells #TeamBlackBerry more about who you are?
Brian wanted to thank BlackBerry too:
I think Fan of the Month is a fantastic idea. I’m so surprised that it was me. I’m honored and overwhelmed, actually.
I’m glad to be a member of #TeamBlackBerry. I can’t express my gratitude.
We can’t wait to introduce you to our next BlackBerry Fan of the Month next month. In the meantime, follow our first BlackBerry Fan of the Month, Brian – @Newshutr
Remember, you could be next! So stay tuned, and if you have spotted someone who should be our Fan of the Month, let us know in the comments.
Last but not least, thank you for making our community what it is. We can’t wait to brag about you.
