Now that we’ve demystified some of the acronyms facing you as a smartphone or tablet buyer, I’ve decided to dive a little bit deeper into a very important one: LTE. Since launching the new 4G LTE BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet, a lot of you have asked: what exactly does LTE mean? LTE – or Long Term Evolution – is the next standard for wireless transmission and the future of the mobile industry.

But don’t take my word for it — I caught up with Omar, an expert in the field here at RIM® to walk us through exactly what LTE means to you in a bit more detail.
