BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry 7 OS: 5 Key Hardware Differences

BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry 7 OS

By now, most of us know that BlackBerry 10 devices are different animals from their earlier counterparts. I still love my BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone, and it still works great. In the spirit of my dueling BlackBerry devices, I thought I’d share five quick things I’ve noticed as being big hardware differences between my BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the new BlackBerry Z10.

  1. Front-Facing Camera. I love having a front-facing camera for video conferencing, and I found myself wanting it on my BlackBerry Bold smartphone so I wouldn’t have to grab my BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. It’s a small thing, but to me it’s an important feature.
  2. 4G LTE. Availability of 4G speeds depend a great deal on your carrier, but the download speeds I’ve noticed on the BlackBerry Z10 definitely make videos and sharing faster and smoother.
  3. Apps and Games. While I definitely had a great collection of apps and games on my BlackBerry Bold smartphone, the graphics and processing capabilities of the BlackBerry Z10 are just that much better. What I’ve found in BlackBerry World is an awesome collection of fun and high quality games and productive apps that help me get through my day.
  4. Screen Resolution. Can we talk about 356 pixels per inch for second? It’s gorgeous. I remember being blown away by the 286 pixels per inch my BlackBerry Bold smartphone sported, but 356 is so much sweeter. And don’t get me started on the 1080p HD recording versus the BlackBerry Bold 9900’s 720p.
  5. Storage. Now that I’m grabbing more music and movies while traveling (thanks, 4G and retooled BlackBerry World), I appreciate the 16GB of onboard space versus the 8GB my BlackBerry Bold smartphone had. (Side note: Remember when 2GB was a ton of space?)

Of course, since BlackBerry 10 is an entirely new OS, there are also a ton of user experience differences, but these five hardware goodies offer their own slice of mobile deliciousness as well.

I especially appreciate the relations drawn between older generation blackberry devices and the new OS 10 devices. The blackberry niche represents an ecosystem of its own. Comparing to other mobile os is a mistake. It has always been a productivity device. The new OS makes it a productivity powerhouse; including access to media content like magazines, movies, shows, music and games. The only difference here is that at the very forefront is the Hub…phenomenal “smart” phone experience.

Hey I am really looking into switching to the Blackberry Z10 from an iPhone 5. Can you provide me with reasons why I should? It would help a lot and for other future people aswell. Thanks for your time and consideration.

I miss my bb but all I keep hearing is they’re not gonna make it and im afraid to lay out the money for one and then it happens. I really do miss it

Okay, what about 5 features that makes Blackberry 10 unique from other smartphones? Blackberry 10 needs to be better than the iPhone, not the equivalent to it. That was the whole reason why I held on to Blackberry for so long–until my Bold kept overheating and I had to replace it. After the third replacement, the last time it died I got the iPhone.

So whats unique? Somebody will catch you in couple of months in matter of tech.
Apps? What a joke! Games? Give me a break.
    What’s wow?

Why should I buy it instead of buying an I phone or a sg s4 or htc one……..all of these phones are in the same category

Hmmm…#SwitchToBlackBerry…is quite tough for all people I guess..!!

Still, how is this better than an apple android or WP device? I get free push mail and notifications too unlike the BB

I am a really compulsive bb addict but the only problem that I am having with bb10 is that the z10 is a full touch phone. Being a blackberry addict, I am also heavily dependant on the qwerty keyboard with the bb signature keyboard. I really think that the Q10 should have been the first phone with bb10. Anyways waiting for Q10 in India.

Hello! I have the new blackberry bold 7. Its awesome! I love the touch screen on it and it really touchy. I love this phone so much if someone took this from me I would just get a new phone! That’s how much I love this phone!

Sweet. I’ve been checkin out the new Z10, its really growing on me! I’m a torch owner right now. I think Z10 is for me, really soon!

I was very excited about BlackBerry Z10 and have patiently anticipated it’s arrival. I love BlackBerry platform and apps that are compatible with it. I will not be purchasing a Z10 or any BlackBerry OS10 device because I cannot use any of my OS7 apps with it. BlackBerry phones are great but the management mistakes are not. Back when the Torch with slide out keyboard was first introduced, I really wanted to purchase one, only to discover that it was exclusive to at&t. Big mistake BlackBerry. Why did you do something like that? Your best phone but only on one carrier? Really?

Now, you created an amazing Z10 but forgot that us, BlackBerry folks, we don’t want to switch platforms. But we are not given a choice because Z10 won’t run OS7 apps. Big mistake BlackBerry. Why again? How many more customers must you loose before you learn?
