Which BlackBerry 10 is Right for Me? Be Bold and Vote

You’re so close to getting a BlackBerry 10 device, you can taste it. You’ve seen videos of new features such as BBM Video Chat on BlackBerry Messenger and the new BlackBerry Picture Editor for the BlackBerry 10 Camera, and you want your new BlackBerry 10 smartphone NOW. But I’ve got just one question for you: Are you more interested in the BlackBerry Q10 hardware physical keyboard or the BlackBerry Z10 touchscreen keyboard?

For those who have their minds made up already, I want your vote. Are you pulling for the BlackBerry 10 with a physical keyboard, or have you been wooed by the predictive text touch keyboard? It’s okay if you haven’t decided yet; one size doesn’t fit all, and neither does one BlackBerry smartphone form factor. Be Bold and Vote:

Customizing BlackBerry 10 Language Settings

When it comes to languages on a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, here are a few things you should know, such as how to enable language detection and switch between languages. In addition to languages, check out our post on customizing the BlackBerry 10 touchscreen keyboard so you get the most of your BlackBerry Z10 experience.

Changing your display language

On your Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
In the Language drop-down list, tap the language that you want to use.

Changing your text input language

To select which languages you use for text input, complete the following steps to enable up to three languages at one time.

On your Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
Tap Input Languages > Add/Remove Languages
Select the checkbox beside the languages that you want to enable.

BlackBerry 10 Hands-on Demo Impresses at New York Times DealBook Conference [VIDEO]

Last week we attended the New York Times DealBook: Opportunities for Tomorrow Conference. With BlackBerry as a founding conference sponsor, Frank Boulben, CMO for BlackBerry, and Vivek Bhardwaj provided an exclusive preview of BlackBerry 10 to some of the most insightful financial, business and economic thought leaders. The hands-on demo focused on the BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry Balance and BlackBerry 10 Keyboard. After the demo, the room was abuzz with folks eager to get their hands on BlackBerry 10. I caught up with a few of the attendees to capture their initial reactions to the demo. Here’s what they thought:

I talked with Vivek afterward, and we both agreed that one of our favorite moments was when an attendee thought he was demoing on a QWERTY device, and he had to hold it up and show the audience that it was a full touch model. “It goes to show the effort we’ve taken to make sure the keyboard on BlackBerry 10 feels like a BlackBerry keyboard,” he said.

While the panel discussions inside the conference were largely geared towards the post-election outlook for the economy, the audience definitely left with a strong sense of where BlackBerry is heading in just a few short weeks.

BlackBerry 10 Keyboard – Vivek Bhardwaj Gives us the Scoop [VIDEO]

It’s no secret that BlackBerry fans love their keyboards, and for BlackBerry 10 we wanted to make sure that the typing experience is unmatched. Who better to show us around the keyboard than Vivek Bhardwaj, our Head of Software Portfolio and demo man extraordinaire!

He explained that we not only wanted to design the keyboard to be BlackBerry visually, but also to show the thought we’ve put into innovations in touch screen typing. At BlackBerry Jam Americas he told me that his favorite feature was the ability to switch between languages. Now, he’s got a new favorite – the spacebar. We’ll let him explain:

Basically, if you miss hitting the spacebar as you type, the keyboard is designed to recognize that and automatically add spaces between your words when you hit it next. This allows you to keep your train of thought and keep typing without having to go back and add spaces. Typing without interruption? Count me in.
