Have you been chomping at the bit, waiting for more information on BlackBerry ® 10? This week we’re showcasing some of the core OS features to developers at BlackBerry ® Jam Americas 2012 in San Jose, so they can continue to build amazing apps for launch.

The BlackBerry 10 browser is designed to give customers fluid navigation, solid performance, a robust feature set and the ability to easily share information. It’s also designed with safety and security in mind, as mobile users are accessing more and more private information online, like their finances.

To get a hands-on preview of the BlackBerry 10 browser, I sat down with Matthew Staikos from the browser team. Here’s what he wanted to share with you:

[ YouTube link for mobile viewing ]

Amazing! Did you see what he did with the camera in the browser? I personally can’t wait to get surfing on BlackBerry 10. What are you most excited about?

For this video, we used the latest developer hardware prototype model, the BlackBerry Dev Alpha B, to demonstrate concepts we’re working on for BlackBerry 10. This device is not representative of final hardware.

Just moments ago at BlackBerry ® Jam Americas 2012, attendees got a sneak peek at what we’re working on for the all-new BlackBerry App World ™ storefront. BlackBerry ® 10 will have more than just games and apps available on BlackBerry App World — users will also have access to music and videos*, all using a single BlackBerry ID ®. For BlackBerry 10, we’ve secured great brands and media partners including Facebook®, foursquare, and Gameloft, and we’re making it easier to manage your content, all through a single BlackBerry ID.

To explore it a bit more through a brief demo, I caught up with BlackBerry 10 expert Michael Clewley for an interview:

[ YouTube link for mobile viewing ]

There’s also a new BlackBerry App World for work as part of the BlackBerry ® Balance ™ technology in BlackBerry 10, which makes it easy for organizations to deploy and recommend apps for their employees. More on that feature with Luke over at the Inside BlackBerry for Business Blog.

Excited to get using the new BlackBerry App World? Let us know in the comments.

*Music and video store access may by limited in some regions.

For this video, we used the latest developer hardware prototype model, the BlackBerry Dev Alpha B, to demonstrate concepts we’re working on for BlackBerry 10. This device is not representative of final hardware.

At Mobile World Congress 2012™ (MWC) in Barcelona, two concept demos are being shown to share some inspiration with the BlackBerry community and to show some of the possibilities and power of the BlackBerry® platform. In this blog post, the Design Foresights team at RIM explains the ideas further behind these concepts.

One thing that distinguishes the BlackBerry brand is our strong focus on enabling productivity and professionalism. With the way people work constantly evolving, the expectations of what collaboration tools should do are also continuously changing. At MWC, we have taken a look at a few aspects we think will be valuable for collaborating and what collaboration might look like in the world of tomorrow – effortless aesthetics and productive yet playful collaboration. Take a look at our MWC demos PitchRocket and Confetti to see further examples of what this could mean in practice.

PitchRocket concept demo

Many have a limited time to prepare for meetings and presentations, still we all know how an impressive presentation can really help someone who wants to pitch an idea or a concept. What if there was a way to create an astonishing presentation on the fly, even just a few minutes before a meeting starts? The concept demo PitchRocket shows what possibilities open up when combining the efficient text input of a handheld BlackBerry smartphone with the powerful graphics and high-resolution output of a BlackBerry® PlayBook™. Imagine writing simple text on your handheld device, and then instantly see it rendered as a beautiful, fluid and “living” presentation available on your PlayBook. The immediacy and combination of minimal input with maximized output is what we mean by “effortless aesthetics.”

Confetti concept demo

People bring PlayBook tablets to meetings and use them for presentations, note-taking and communicating. What if all these devices could be seamless joined into an extended work space linking all the screens? The Confetti demo shows what futuristic collaboration may look like on the BlackBerry platform. The tool enables sharing and presentation among participants, with a presence and direction-aware user interface as well as dynamic particle-like effects, allowing meeting participants to seamlessly collaborate in a productive yet playful way. Also, after seeing this demo, it’s clear that the PlayBook experience extends beyond the size of the device’s screen.

With the BlackBerry® Bridge™ functionality included in BlackBerry® PlayBook™ OS 2.0 and the BlackBerry Bridge update for BlackBerry® smartphones, the relationship between your BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet will be brought to a whole new level. We managed to track down Michael Clewley and Jeff Gadway once again at CES 2012 to share features of the BlackBerry Bridge technology included in BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0. Check out the video below for the whole scoop:

With the new BlackBerry Bridge features that help your smartphone and tablet work together, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 delivers new and unique experiences. I’ve been thinking about ways that I’ll be able to leverage this functionality both at home and at work, and I haven’t run out of ideas yet.

Share how you plan to use these enhancements to BlackBerry Bridge, at home or at work, in the comments below.

One of the BlackBerry® World™ 2011 keynote highlights for me was the demonstration of SAP’s enterprise-ready BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet sales dashboard applications. With the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, SAP is evolving sales dashboards into portable resources with dynamic data and visually rich implementations.

I had the opportunity to chat with Steve Lucas, EVP and GM of SAP Business Objects division, about the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and the “big data” opportunity in enterprise mobility today.

What would you like to see in enterprise applications for your sales force? Leave us a comment and join the discussion!
