#TeamBlackBerry – If I asked you for your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet PIN, would you know where to find it? For those of you that don’t know the answer to this question, here are a few of the locations where you can obtain the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PIN.

Location #1 – During the Setup Wizard

If you are setting up a brand new BlackBerry PlayBook tablet or setting up the tablet again after performing a security wipe, you’ll be shown the Setup Wizard, which helps you get your tablet set up and updated to the latest version of the BlackBerry® PlayBook OS. To get the tablet PIN while in the Setup Wizard app, complete the following steps:

Protecting information on your BlackBerry® smartphone and finding it in case you misplaced it is made easier thanks to the BlackBerry® Protect™ app. This free application allows you to take advantage of several features such as automatic backups of your contacts, calendar entries and more. It is a great way to help ensure you do not lose important contact information; for example, if you happen to lose your BlackBerry smartphone.

Today I’d like to show you five reasons why you should be using BlackBerry Protect if you haven’t set it up already:

As promised in the first BlackBerry® 7 Getting Started Guide, here is a complete overview of every option available in the Setup wizard. For those wondering, I will be using a BlackBerry® Torch™ 9860 smartphone in this post.

Before we begin, opening the Setup app can be accomplished two ways. The first is when it opens automatically after starting up a new BlackBerry 7 OS smartphone. The second is when you open it by selecting the Setup icon that appears on the Home Screen if you’ve already set up BlackBerry 7 on your smartphone. With this being said, let’s dive in.

Setting up BlackBerry® Bridge™ is really easy – it only takes about five minutes! To begin, you must have a BlackBerry® smartphone running BlackBerry® Device Software version 5.0 or later and a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet. (Click here to find out which version of software your BlackBerry smartphone has.) You’ll need to install the BlackBerry Bridge application on your BlackBerry smartphone, because it’s the software that you’ll use to connect and communicate with your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

Your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet comes with BlackBerry Bridge built in, but it must be installed (instructions noted below) and, provided you’ve completed the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet setup process and you have a BlackBerry smartphone that meets the minimum device software requirement above, all you’ll need to do is install the BlackBerry Bridge application on your BlackBerry smartphone and pair it with your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

Here’s how to do it!

Congratulations, you’ve just bought a new BlackBerry® smartphone to replace your slightly aging device…wait, you were using a BlackBerry 6210? Wow. Welcome to the future, where the world is in color.

Now that you have your shiny new smartphone, the first thing you want to do is make sure that you get your email delivered there instead of to the old one. (It may not really be the first thing you want to do, but I’m the email product manager, so hang in there.) Making the swap is pretty straightforward.

Before we go any further, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this article on the BlackBerry Technical <strike>Knowledge</strike> Solution Center. It covers things like erasing your old device, moving your corporate account and more. It even has a flowchart, if that sort of thing tickles your fancy.

Moving on…

Stick your SIM card in your new smartphone (assuming it’s the type that uses one) and power it up. For you fine CDMA folks, you’ll want to call your carrier and activate the new smartphone, if you haven’t already. Then, look for the icon called “E-mail Settings”, “Personal Email Set Up”, or some variation on that wording. If your device uses the nifty theme that looks like wireframe, the icon is nestled inside the folder called “Setup”. Either way, the icon is an envelope with a gear on it. Visual aid incoming:

Click the icon. Depending on your carrier, you may have to enter a username and password to log in first. After you log in, the service will notice that you have a new smartphone, and say “Hey, you used to use PIN 1234. Do you want to change to PIN 5678?” Take a deep breath, and click “Yes”. Again, depending on your carrier, you may need to enter the passwords for any email accounts you had associated with your smartphone before. If so, go ahead and enter them as prompted until it tells you you’re done.

That’s it! You’ll start getting email on your new smartphone in about 15 or 20 minutes, and you can start sending right away. Contemplate the sweetness of your new BlackBerry smartphone as you await that first buzz of an incoming email.
