BBM award

The Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) just recognized BBM with a prestigious Industry ‘Smartie’ Award for 2015 Publisher/Media Company of the Year in Mobile, Indonesia.

We’re thrilled about this award because it validates the growing strength of BBM as a mobile advertising platform, and the predominant messaging application in Indonesia.

Growing Beyond Chat

During the last couple of years, BBM has been pushing the limits of what a messaging app can be. Since I came to BlackBerry in 2014, we’ve added a complete Shop experience beyond just stickers (including sponsored stickers), subscriptions services, Top Picks for apps, BBM Meetings, Android Wear support, and a number of Privacy and Security features including Private Chat. We’ve also launched several in-app payment solutions, including BBM Money, PayPal and over the last week Quickteller in Nigeria.

We also recently celebrated BBM’s 10th birthday, which reminded us how the app has quickly evolved from a text-only, BlackBerry smartphone messaging solution to a bustling, cross-platform, global social network

BBM = Social + Ads + Content + Commerce

This award is really important for BBM, because it shows that the mobile marketing and advertising community recognizes how successfully we’ve created a true ecosystem that brings together social, ads, content and commerce. We are a new kid on the block when it comes to media and advertising, but from turning on our first direct native ad in July and then video in September this year, we are now generating more than one billion ad requests per day.

Now that mobile and social media are one of the top priorities for marketers, messaging apps like BBM are providing unprecedented targeting and access for brands to connect with their customers in real-time regardless of device type, operating system or carrier network.

We’re very grateful to the MMA for recognizing that achievement, and are excited to continue our journey, working closely with brands and ad partners to maximize the value they can generate by leveraging their content through BBM. We have many more innovative ideas in the works, and we look forward to evolving into an even better mobile platform for consumers and marketers.

Today: Indonesia. Tomorrow: The World.
Thanks to our huge and enthusiastic user base there, we’ve introduced some of our new BBM features in Indonesia first. Just as this award validates our solid advertising platform there, it also encourages us to continue to build BBM into a gateway to the entire connected world, where everyone can interact with friends, family, favorite brands, shopping outlets, local merchants, and more.
