Why Security Is a Critical Capability: Gartner Releases Its Critical Capabilities for EMM Suites Report

Mobility means taking the data that forms the lifeblood of your business out from the firewalls of your network and the physical walls of your building. While this makes your business more efficient and effective, it also exposes your data to the wider web. No one should consider mobility without first taking into account how their data will be kept safe.

There are many threats we need to guard against, and a great deal of information we need to protect.

“Mobility is enabling organizations to better engage with customers, improve business processes, and enable new business opportunities,” reads Gartner’s 2016 Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Mobility Management Suites report. “However, mobile expansion cannot occur without operational integrity and reliability, which is achieved, in part, through the use of enterprise mobility management (EMM) suites.”

Your competitive bids are commercially sensitive whether you are a defense contractor or an entertainment firm. Customer data needs to be protected whether you’re a law firm or a social network. Security, therefore, is a critical capability for everyone, and it’s dangerous to believe otherwise.

These are truths we at BlackBerry have known for over a decade.

How BlackBerry Keeps Mobility Secure

In this year’s report, BlackBerry received the highest product score in the regulated industries (4.16/5), application-centric (4.29/5), and unmanaged device support (4.33) use cases. We feel our position in regulated verticals is noteworthy, due in large part to the protections available now through the BlackBerry Enterprise Mobility Suite, formerly known as Good Secure EMM Suites. And for organizations that use BlackBerry 10 devices, our support is of the strongest in the industry.

For critical capabilities, we received the highest scores in containment (4.9/5) and device security/compliance (4.9/5).

We’re pleased with our ratings this year – and that Gartner named us a Leader in its EMM Suites Magic Quadrant. Security, after all, is in our DNA. It’s always been at the core of what we do, an approach we hope to instill upon our partners and peers alike.

At BlackBerry, we believe that security must be seen to by vendors and clients alike from the very beginning. It’s not something that’s layered on afterwards. We believe that the importance of that philosophy is reflected in the scores given to us by Gartner, and are proud to be further recognized as a leader in enterprise mobile security.
