What to Expect: BlackBerry at Black Hat USA 2023

Like thousands of people around the world, the BlackBerry® team of researchers and threat hunters is counting down the hours to the kickoff of the 26th annual Black Hat USA conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas on Aug. 9. They will be on hand at the event to share new details of the RomCom RAT and APT29 threats, and to provide insights into how modern organizations are using CTI (cyber threat intelligence), artificial intelligence, machine learning and more to level-up their defenses.

Along with the chance to meet members of the BlackBerry CTI team, visitors to Booth #1232 on Aug. 9 and 10 will get to see BlackBerry’s Cylance® predictive AI engine in action. The company’s next-generation Cylance AI/ML models block ransomware, zero-days, and other cyberattacks. What’s more, BlackBerry’s CylanceENDPOINT provides advanced controls for safeguarding against sophisticated threats, while requiring no human intervention, internet connections, signature files, heuristics, or sandboxes.

Love and Espionage: Unraveling the RomCom RAT and APT29 in the Ukraine Conflict

Speakers: Dmitry Bestuzhev, Senior Director, Cyberthreat Intelligence, and Jacob Faires, Senior Threat Researcher

Date: Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023
Time: 10:20 a.m. PT (In-Person)

While investigating the lead-up to the Ukraine war, researchers uncovered a Russian-backed cyber espionage campaign preceding a series of operations and weapon deployments against Ukraine. Notably, the RomCom RAT plays a significant role by exploiting diverse entry methods to compromise Ukrainian military and government entities. Join BlackBerry as the team members chronicle their pursuit of the threat actor amid changing network infrastructure and unveil the inner workings of the RomCom RAT within the theater of operations. Researchers will also cover the role of APT29 in providing diplomatic signals inside the war in Ukraine.

Speaker: Mark Mariani, Product Marketing Director

Dates: Aug. 9–16, 2023

Time: On-demand for conference attendees

The path to cyber resilience can feel overwhelming when the threat landscape is constantly evolving. How can cyber practitioners keep up?

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • What it means to be cyber resilient
  • How modern organizations are using CTI (cyber threat intelligence)
  • How BlackBerry cyber insights help you stay ahead of threat actors
