MotorTrend Announces Finalists for Software-Defined Vehicle Awards

AUTOMOTIVE / 12.14.23 / Steve Kovsky

What if, like a fine wine, your car actually got better with age? That’s exactly where the next generation of personal transportation is headed, thanks to the advent of SDV (software-defined vehicle) designs.

Because SDVs can be updated at any time, new fixes and features are just a simple OTA (over the air) download away. And so are exciting customizations that tailor your car to your specific needs and preferences, while enhancing your safety and security.

But these radical advances in car design and manufacture don’t make themselves. They are the result of visionary leadership, engineering, and execution by elite industry experts. Recognizing these pioneering individuals, and celebrating their extraordinary and transformative efforts, is the goal of MotorTrend’s annual SDV Innovator Awards, presented in partnership with BlackBerry.

That’s why we’re excited to share MotorTrend’s list of finalists for the 2024 SDV Innovator Awards. Chosen by the MotorTrend editorial team that selects the coveted Car, Truck, and SUV of the Year awards, these finalists are in contention to receive awards at an exclusive gala reception to be held on Jan. 9, 2024, during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Finalists for the 2024 Software-Defined Vehicle Innovator Awards

MotorTrend, an almost 75-year-old automotive institution that’s now part of the Warner Discovery media empire, created the SDV Innovator Awards in 2023, in partnership with BlackBerry. The BlackBerry® QNX® real-time operating system, which powers a growing number of cutting-edge SDV designs from around the globe, has already been embedded by automakers and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) into more than 235 million vehicles worldwide. BlackBerry — the same Canada-based company that used to be one of the world's largest smartphone makers — is now recognized as a software leader helping to enable this global automotive evolution.

Forty-five individuals, representing 21 leading automotive OEM, supplier, and technology companies, have been chosen for consideration to receive 2024 MotorTrend SDV Innovator awards. The finalists hail from among the following organizations:

  • AEye

  • Amazon Web Services

  • Apex.AI

  • AutoCrypt
