BlackBerry and SANS Institute Partner to Upskill Malaysia’s Cybersecurity Community
I’m thrilled to announce a new partnership between BlackBerry and the SANS Institute: We are working together to provide advanced technology and training to help grow and upskill Malaysia’s cybersecurity workforce, as well as make the Indo-Pacific region more secure.
SANS Institute’s internationally recognized cybersecurity training and curriculum will be among the first offerings featured at a new state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Malaysia, which is set to officially open in the next couple of months.
Long-Term Commitment to Cybersecurity in Malaysia
The world-class CCoE is the first major milestone in BlackBerry’s landmark cybersecurity agreement with the government of Malaysia, which we announced at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in San Francisco in November 2023. Under the agreement, Malaysia is deploying our full suite of trusted BlackBerry® cybersecurity solutions. In tandem, we committed to help build the country’s cybersecurity learning ecosystem — especially in the areas of AI and machine learning, where BlackBerry is a globally recognized pioneer and leader — to help close the widening cybersecurity skills gap in this increasingly target-rich threat landscape.
The new CCoE is a cornerstone of our joint nationwide program to support the Malaysian government in growing the nation’s cybersecurity competencies in critical areas, including forensics and incident response.
SANS Institute’s Director of Strategy & Business Development, Asia Pacific, Matthias Chia recently shared his perspective. “As a leading provider of cybersecurity education, SANS knows first-hand that training, upskilling, and establishing a culture of continuous learning and innovation is crucial for any nation to build adequate cyber-resilience in our complex digital age. We are proud to partner with BlackBerry in Malaysia to offer our globally accredited training programs to help upskill cyber-workforces and enhance technical capabilities among cyber professionals, but also train new students wishing to carve out a career in this exciting field.”
In addition to the SANS programs, BlackBerry will offer its own curriculum at the new CCoE, as well as partner with leading Malaysian universities and other institutions to offer a wide range of courses, certifications and programs.
First Training Course Announced at Malaysia CCoE
Registration is open now for the first SANS Institute training course to be held at the CCoE in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The course, “SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, and Incident Handling,” takes place from March 11 to 16, 2024. Interested parties can register here for SANS Institute trainings and exercises in Malaysia. Additional information about the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Malaysia is available here.
At BlackBerry, we have nearly 40 years’ experience protecting global governments from cyberattacks, espionage, and data leaks, and we are proud to launch this partnership to increase the skills and size of the cybersecurity workforce in Malaysia and throughout the region.
