BlackBerry has been honored with the prestigious Cyber Security Service Innovation Award at Malaysia’s Cyber Security Awards 2024. The award was presented by Dato' Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Bin Abdul Wahab FASc, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cybersecurity Malaysia during CyberDSA, an industry event endorsed by Cybersecurity Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia

This accolade celebrates BlackBerry’s unwavering commitment to building Malaysia’s cybersecurity capacity, boosting the country’s cyber-resilience, and aiding Malaysia’s progress towards becoming a secure digital nation.

Celebrating Innovation in Cybersecurity

BlackBerry’s recognition is based on three critical areas of evaluation. These include:

  • Product innovation
  • Education
  • Service

The award highlights the company’s successful establishment of a new Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya, aimed at training and upskilling cyber-workforces in Malaysia and the ASEAN region. Additionally, BlackBerry’s state-of-the-art cybersecurity solutions and services portfolio, trusted globally by governments and businesses, played a pivotal role in earning this award. Malaysia is using these solutions to help protect people, critical infrastructure, information, conversations, messaging, and apps and devices used by roaming workforces.

Industry Collaboration Is Key For Digital Trust

In commending organizations for leading the way in advancing Malaysia’s cybersecurity landscape, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital said, “Digital trust enhances security and resilience through collaborative efforts and shared threat intelligence. By combating misinformation, protecting privacy and promoting social cohesion, digital trust contributes to a safer and more harmonious society.”

Advancing Malaysia's Cybersecurity Landscape

Since announcing its software and services agreement with the Malaysian Government in November 2023, BlackBerry has continued to show its commitment to strengthening Malaysia's cybersecurity landscape. The opening of the Malaysia CCoE in early 2024 (check out the video below) marked the beginning of several initiatives, including announcing internationally accredited training partners, offering scholarships to women cyber leaders, and launching the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Curriculum.

The comprehensive curriculum, a global first for BlackBerry, equips local private and public businesses and government agencies with training and upskilling programs. In just five months, the CCoE has trained over 700 individuals, and hundreds more have attended networking and knowledge-sharing events.

BlackBerry's Vision and Cybersecurity Commitment

Tash Stamatelos, Vice President of APAC at BlackBerry, expressed gratitude in receiving the award, saying, “We are proud to receive the Cyber Security Service Innovation Award in recognition of our efforts to help Malaysian organizations bolster cyber-defenses and advance the digital economy. We sincerely thank Cybersecurity Malaysia and the Ministry of Digital for this honor.

“In collaboration with the government, private sector, and academia, BlackBerry remains steadfast in our mission to help train and upskill the nation’s cyber workforce at the Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and continue to deliver cybersecurity innovation and service excellence to help create a safer and more secure digital environment for Malaysia and the ASEAN region.”
